About Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a common treatment option for restoring the visible portion of a tooth. These dental restorations are customized to an exact size, shape, and color to return appearance and function to damaged teeth. The talented general dentists at ACE Dental of Taylor are exceptionally skilled in prosthodontic procedures, like dental crowns, and use advanced technologies and techniques to generate natural-looking outcomes for our patients. Commonly referred to as dental caps, crowns may be utilized to treat moderate-sized cavities along with worn, cracked, or broken teeth. Our team of dentists also place custom crowns on individual dental implants to finish off a tooth replacement procedure. Is a Crown Ideal for You?
Dental fillings can often be utilized to address minor cavities and other restorative issues. But when more extensive tooth damage has occurred, a crown may be the ideal option for restoring a natural look and function. We place crowns on the back and front to strengthen, rebuild, or improve:
- Worn or cracked teeth
- Moderate tooth decay
- Teeth with large or old fillings
- Root canal-treated teeth
- Misshapen or discolored teeth
- Fractured or broken teeth
- Single dental implants
- Dental bridges for tooth replacement
At ACE Dental of Taylor, we work with the highest quality crown materials, including porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, and all-metal options. Our team can help you explore your crown options and choose the material ideal for both your budget and treatment needs.
What Is the Treatment Process?
In general, a dental crown procedure is completed within two appointments at our dental facility. At your first visit, we will numb your tooth and then eliminate damaged or decayed tooth structure. Nitrous oxide gas may also be used to help you feel more at ease if you prefer. A digital iTero impression will then be taken of your prepared tooth, which allows us to design the fit and shape of your crown with greater precision. While your crown is created in a professional dental lab, we will have you wear a temporary restoration over your tooth. It takes about 1 – 2 weeks for your crown to be made, after which we will schedule your second visit so our team can remove your temporary. The crown will then be bonded to your tooth (or attached to a dental implant already in place) and adjusted as needed for comfort.
Caring for Your Crown
Our team will explain how to care for your new crown once it is in place. It is still important to maintain good brushing and flossing habits each day, as the underlying tooth can still become decayed without proper care. If your crown ever feels loose or comes off entirely, please let us know right away. Attempting to reattach it on your own may cause damage to your crown or tooth. When you visit ACE Dental of Taylor for check-up visits, we will assess your restoration and monitor the health of your tooth. However, when cared for in the best possible way, dental crowns may last for several years.
Will Insurance Cover Dental Crowns?
A portion of your dental crown procedure may be covered if you carry dental insurance. Our billing team will review your plan and help maximize your benefits in an effort to minimize your overall treatment costs. ACE Dental of Taylor offers affordable dentistry at reasonable rates and takes a wide range of payment options to help make dental care more accessible. We can also help you apply for medical financing and explore budget-friendly solutions to match your needs.
